The Margaree River

One of Nova Scotia's largest and most valuable watersheds-the Margaree is a Canadian Heritage River that hosts strong runs of Atlantic Salmon, Sea Run Trout and Striped Bass.

The Fishing

The Lodge is situated on the upper portion of the Margaree River, within walking distance of Wards rock pool, Skylodge pool, Cementary pool and Blackrock pool.. The river has been a magnet for anglers from around the globe for many decades. We offer a season for Atlantic Salmon that runs from June 1st to October 31, as well as a trout season from April 15 to September 30. Our guests can enjoy wading the river from the banks, using a variety of traditional and modern fly patterns to make the catch of a lifetime. You will need a salmon license which you can order online prior to your arrival. 1 day salmon license $ 30, 7-days non resident salmon license $ 63.65
Pool rotation etiquette is an important feature of the river and must be followed.
Salmon pools are well mapped and all water is public.
There are many local guides available, and hiring one for a day will help learn the river and dramatically increase your chances of hooking a fish of a lifetime!
